Realtors plan fair housing program

PERU — April is Fair Housing Month, and the Illini Valley Association of Realtors will join Americans across the country as they honor Fair Housing Month

“Realtors build communities and believe everyone has the right to live wherever they can afford to live,” said Alice Green, 2016 president of the Illini Valley Association of Realtors. “It is important to take time to recognize Fair Housing Month in order to promote awareness about fair housing laws, diversity, and inclusion in our communities. Realtors are committed to upholding these laws and to work tirelessly to offer equal professional services to everyone.”

In celebration of Fair Housing Month, the Illini Valley Association of Realtors Equal Opportunity in Housing Committee is sponsoring two events.

The first is a luncheon program on fair housing: “Fair Housing – Understanding the Subtleties of Discrimination” presented by Sue Miller of McHenry from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the Peru City Building, 1901 Fourth St. Miller has served on her local Realtors Association, the Illinois Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors Board of Directors.

The event is free and open the public. To register ahead or for more information call the Illini Valley Association 815-224-1868 or visit

Immediately following, all local mayors and village presidents are invited to sign proclamations proclaiming April as Fair Housing Month.

In addition, the public can look forward to “open house” weekend which is scheduled April 23–24 showcasing homes for sale throughout the area by Illini Valley Association of Realtors member brokers.

The Illini Valley Association of Realtors is one of more than 1,800 local boards and associations of realtors that comprise the National Association of Realtors.
